Yayoi Toriki graduated from Musashino Academia Musicae.

She went to Italy to study in 1999.

Her opera debut was in 2002 in the Communal Theater of Florence’s production of GIANNI SCHICCHI, singing the role of Zita. She has won prizes in various competitions in Europe such as the Verdi Voice Competition, and has appeared in various operas in Italy and France.

 

Her opera debut in Spain was in 2008 with MADAME BUTTERFLY, singing the role of Suzuki. Her performance was highly praised by the Spanish media for her beautiful voice and her delicate and expressive acting.

 

Her debut in Japan was in 2003 in the New National Theater’s production of NORMA, singing the role of Clotilde. She has since performed in Toyota Community Opera Leoncavallo LA BOHEME (Musetta), Suntory Hall FALSTAFF (Meg Page), etc.

She performed with the Fujiwara Opera for the first time in 2004 with CARMEN (Mercedes). Since then, she has performed in IL VIAGGIO A REIMS (Marchese Melibea), RIGOLETTO (Maddalena), LA GIOCONDA (La Cieca), DIALOGUES OF THE CARMELITES (Mother Marie), TANCREDI (Isaura).

In concerts she sings the mezzo-soprano soloist parts of oratorios such as REQUIEM, BEETHOVEN 9TH SYMPHONY, MISSA SOLEMNIS, MESSIAH.

She performs also in opera galas in Japan as well as abroad.

 

In 2007, she studied in France through the Program of Overseas Study for Upcoming Artists of the Agency for Cultural Affairs. She received the Diplome Supérieur d’exécution de chant at the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris.

 

She is a member of the Fujiwara Opera as well as a lecturer at the Musashino Academia Musicae.

 

She performed the role of Rosina in Fujiwara Opera’s production of THE BARBER OF SEVILLE at the New National Theater in September 2011.
